Honus ‘Hans The Flying Dutchman’ Wagner is said to be the greatest baseball player of all time in the United States.
Wagner, a player for the Pittsburgh Pirates, was a non-smoker and he wasn’t at all happy that an American tobacco company had used his photograph on a cigarette card.
He complained and ordered them to stop. They agreed and stopped printing the card. It is believed that only 60 of these cards ever existed.
In 2016, two of these ‘Jumbo’ Wagner cards were sold in the US, one for £2.35 million and the other for £2.62 million.
In 2010, a group of nuns in Baltimore US sold a similar card making them a cool £219,908.
In 2021, another T206 Honus Wagner card sold at auction for a massive £4.6 million. Well, £5.5 million once the auction house added its fees!

Standing in a dark and drafty attic holding a book with hundreds of rare and pristine cigarette cards… including the ultra-rare T206 Honus Wagner card.

In March 2021, Jaiden, then 15, was watching a Star Wars film at his afternoon youth group in Tacoma, Washington when the bids for his digital illustration of a waving astronaut cartoon figure began to flood in.
Jaiden’s artwork sold for an incredible £24,782 through auction and was resold a month later for an incredible £49,564.
Jaiden made £24,782 from one piece of artwork… and the buyer… he also went on to make a £24,782 profit just one month later.

One of those other four illustrations sold for £34,695 which was resold nine months later for a staggering £101,607.
One digital artist going by the name of ‘Beeple’ sold his artwork for a staggering £57 million.
A bit like the T206 Honus Wagner card, sales for those kinds of amounts are more the exception than the rule…
But that is okay… you don’t need those kinds of sales to make good money… although they would be nice.
